Let him build another perspective in unity that shall clarify human development for him, and let him remember the words Napoleon bequeathed to Duke of Reichstadt at St. Helena, 'May my son study history, for it is the only true psychology and the only true philosohpy.'
--Will Durant, (1885-1981), The Eminent Scholar, Philosopher, and Historian of Twentieth Century.
''Please check Time Magazine, dated February 21, 2011, with these words boldly printed on its cover page, "2045: The Year Man Becomes Immortal." Ray Kurzweil has published a 500-page book on this topic, entitled, The Age of Singularity is Near. Indeed, we are entering into an "age of singularity" when the intelligence of man is going to merge with the intelligence of machine.
Richard Restak, M.D., author of 18 books on the subject of brain thinks we are already living in what he calls the "neurosociety" when non biological machines invented by human genius and human ingenuity are going to outamrt human intelligence billions of times.
The coming age of singularity is going to introduce us to the new worldview centered in the Machine-Like God when scientists start uoloading, in the words of Kurzweil, "the contents of our brains into computers, our minds and being becoming nothing more than programs that exist in whatever hardware we export them to, with no need for corporeal existence, no need for bodies that will eventually wrinkle, breakdown or die."
In October, 2009, more than 800 singularitarians held thair convention in Manhattan. They meet every year to monitor the progress of their movement and to promote their idea of singularity. This represents a "rupture in the fabric of human history," according to Mr. Kurzweil and his friends.
At a NASA conference in 1993 science-fiction novelist Vernor Vinge said, "within 30 years we will have the technological means to create super human intelligence. Shortly after, the human era will be ended."
This scares me to death. The modern man has become like the tourist who has hired a taxi cab and niether the driver nor the tourist knows where he or she is heading. Besides, the breaks have failed and either one of them knows how to stop the car from running.
We are heading towards a major crash and this is not going to be crash landing. That is our dilemma at this juncture in history. The modern man/woman has eaten the forbdden fruit the second time. And this time man has indeed become like God.
